Numerous fans, critics and sections of the media have spoken out about the game they love becoming less and less of a contact sport, due to a number of new enforced rules in recent times.
It would appear, though, that Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner didn’t get the memo over dangerous challenges on the field of play, if the injury sustained by Porto’s Hector Herrera on Wednesday is anything to go by.
The 26-year-old midfielder was on the receiving end of a particularly nasty challenge from Lichtsteiner in his side’s 2-0 Champions league defeat, and the image that did the rounds on social media after the match gave a gruesome insight into the damage the full-back dished out to his fellow player.
Be warned, though, the photograph we’re about to show is not safe for work:

The word ‘ouch’ really doesn’t do this horrendous gash justice.
What’s even more ridiculous is that Herrera, after receiving treatment on the pitch, managed to last the entire 90 minutes of the last-16 first leg clash!
Lichtsteiner got booked for his part, incidentally. He couldn’t have complained if he’s received a straight red, mind you.
